kdemod for Arch Linux
The Arch KDE maintainer pushed KDE 4.1 (RC1) out to the official repositories over the weekend. As I update my machine every week I was a little dismayed by this as I think they are being just a little bullish on it. I’m not quite ready to switch, especially on the notebook that I rely on when I travel. Nothing like having computer problems when you’re on the road.
There is an alternative suite of KDE packages for Arch called kdemod. Arch has always been the perfect balance of leading edge and stable so I have never strayed from the official package set but in hopes that I could stave off my KDE 4.1 shift for at least a few weeks I switched over to kdemod.
I have to say I have been missing out. kdemod is faster and solves some of those minor annoyances I have learned to live with in KDE 3.5. If you run Arch and use KDE I definately recommend you check it out.
