Windows Vista Ultimate
So I am typing this on Windows Vista Ultimate and it’s not too bad — once you go into the control panel and turn the FX down. Unlike Mac OS it hasn’t prompted me to buy anything. I don’t feel like I’m being marketed to at all - which is because I’m not.
The reason I am using it is that I have a new laptop for work and of course the first thing I did was shrink the Vista partition and install Linux. It has some issues though that I haven’t worked through and since it has two Nvidia cards with SLI I thought I’d take the SLI for a spin and that means doing some stuff in Windows.
In case you are curious the laptop is an Alienware M17X. I have everything working via linux except the webcam. The real issue is that it has 4GB of ram. The BIOS is very limited and doesn’t let me turn off Plug & Play OS so IO mapping is interfering with linux seeing all 4GB and it is only reporting 2GB.
